Mm. I suppose I see what you mean. Perhaps it's the fact that I've been taking care of my younger sister since our mother died.

How old is she?

A few years younger than me - she's thirteen.

I suppose so. She's better able to take care of herself than a toddler would be, at least.

And most thirteen-year-olds don't try to chew on hair and jewelry.

There's that, too. It sounds as though you have someone with that problem. [Now Butterfly sounds rather amused.]

Mm; Lisa's daughter Rachel is two.

Ah, I see. [She doesn't know who 'Lisa' is; for the moment she's assuming a close friend.]

She's at that age where she thinks everything is a toy.

Of course. Well, how else are they supposed to learn what things are?

Not putting them all in their mouths would be a good first step.

I think it has something to do with their mouths being more sensitive than their fingers.

That's what my mother said when I asked her about my sister doing it, at least. Though I could be misremembering, since it was so long ago.

I've never asked about it. We just tell her to stop.

Mm. I suppose once she starts talking she'll ask about things instead.

She talks. Too much, sometimes.

Really? Hm. I suppose I don't remember that much from when my sister was that young.

She's been talking for a while now. Well over six months.
